Event Series: From Stance to Action
Literature, Practice, and Engagement
Our stance determines how we relate to the world: What am I committed to? What values do I stand for? What does it mean to have an stance – and is that enough? Why do we often find it difficult to translate our stance into the practical dimension of action? First comes the stance — then the action. Action is grounded in a stance; we need a firm foundation from which to act, one that determines the direction of our actions.
What does it mean to be actively engaged — in an era of multiple crises and headwinds against democratic and civic engagement? The current political climate challenges us all — both those who are already socially engaged and those for whom such engagement may present obstacles. After all, information about opportunities for civic participation is often not readily available.
We want to shed light on this gap step by step: We’ll take a look at dedicated initiatives and speak with people working at the intersection of literature and art who are already active (in Munich), and we aim to facilitate accessible engagement for people of all ages. We want to make a start: Attitudes are shaped and formed through text and books. But how do we move forward now?
